Indoor Wet Market

  1. Just like you, I like to visit the old areas and wet markets every time I visit HK. The new shopping areas are more or less the same everywhere. But the old areas are unique and reflect the essence of the local life style and an era bygone. I find many old buildings along Castle Peak Road demolished this visit. Making way for progress is inevitable, but part of my old HK memories are vanished with the disappearance of the old areas.
If I recall correctly, the logo of the store that carried sweet Chinese vinegar in SKM wet market has a penguin in it. My late father's favorite Kwai Lin chili sauce was from this store. I wonder if they still produce it.

  4. This old areas are fading out. I just want to capture them with my camera before it is too late. Yes, the logo of 左顯記is a penguin. It is in fact very interesting. What is the relationship between a penguin and the products of this company? You can still buy the KL chili sauce by this company.

  7. Fat Joy, I agree with you. The penguin logo was irrelevant to the store's products. But it was strikingly one of a kind and made a lasting impression in my childhood memory. Today's advertising and marketing agents should learn from the smart idea of Chor Hei Kee.
